Simi’s full name is Simisola Bolatito Adeola Opeyemi Oreoluwa Ogunleye. To put that in official documents is quite a long name. So Simi officially goes along with a shorter version, Simisola Ogunleye, though her music career takes the name “Simi.” Simi was born in Ojuelegba, Surulere, on 19 April 1988. She was raised in a family where she was the last of four children and the only girl child. Somebody quoted Simi as a tomboy (a girl who exhibits characteristics or behaviors considered typical of a boy) when growing up.
Well, that’s understandable, looking into the environment she grew up in, Ojuelegba, and being the only girl out of four children. Simi was raised by a single mum, Mrs. Jedidiah Ogunleye after she was 9 years old when her father separated from the family. Charles Oladele Ogunleye, Simi’s father died in 2014. In January 2018 Simi ‘s mother was remarried to another man. Simi attended Stars International College, a secondary school in Ikorodu, Lagos State, she is also an alumnus at Covenant University, one of Nigeria’s top universities, where she studied mass communication.
Simi is married to Nigerian afro-pop singer, Adekunle Gold after reports and speculations that she would be bound to Falz, who released her intimate EP album, “Chemistry.” There were rumors that after they both sang “Hallelujah,” she could marry Johnny Drille, too. Nonetheless, on 9 January 2019, Simi was happily married to Adekunle Gold and the couple are expecting a baby soon. She has not been available to the media about her relationships until Simi tied the knot. She kept it off social media and private.

Her career in music traces back to her local church where she sang in the church choir. Simi’s professional career in music started when she turned 20 in 2008. Simi as a talented Nigerian singer, came into the spotlight in music industry when she released her first 5 songs in January 2014. Her EP-album was titled “Restless”. Restless an EP consisting of covers of songs by Adele (Set fire to the rain) and Rihanna (Man’s down) earned her a record deal with X3M Music, her current label record. She became famous with the release of “Tiff” and “E no go funny” which got her much attention as “Tiff” was nominated for Best Alternative Song at the 2015 edition of The Headies Award.
The video for “Tiff” was directed by Josh Clarke and then released on 30 August 2015, one year after the release of the song. Simi began to release more hit songs featuring top artists such as Falz and Adekunle Gold, with whom she is now married. Simi in September 2017, released her second album called “Simisola.” “Simisola” album hit the 5th and 1st spot on the Billboard World Music Charts for three weeks on both the Apple Music and iTunes chart. Her lead single, a sensational highlife song titled “Joromi,” became instantly a favorite of a song. “Joromi” was inspired by Victor Uwaifo, a Nigerian musician, writer, sculptor and inventor of musical instruments who sang “Joromi” in the original highlife version.
Simi’s third studio album, “Omo Charlie Champagne vol 1,” was released on April 19, 2019, Simi’s 31st birthday, and dedicated as a tribute to Simi’s father. The album is filled with hit songs like “Jericho ft Patoranking,” “By you ft Adekunle,” “Mind your business ft Falz,” and the first song “Charlie” is a soulful homage that mourns the late father of Simi.
