Ali Ndume, the senator representing Borno south, has kicked off reuniting former Boko Haram militants into the society.

In July this year at least 600 former insurgents completed a program of de-radicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration (DRR).

Yet Ndume urged the government during an interview on BBC Hausa to stop rehabilitating them, as they would never repent.

“This government’s programme is unacceptable to our people. The best thing to do is to stop it entirely.

They are related to the Kharajites. Most of those released have since fled. They never repent.

“The government should know what to do about them. But not re-introducing someone to you, who has killed your parent, or your relations,” Ndume said.

Operation Safe Corridor, an initiative to deradicalize and rehabilitate ex-Boko Haram fighters, was launched by the military in 2016 with the aim of reintegrating repentant members of Boko Haram into society.
