In a recent interview with Pete Edochie reveals how the couple have lived together for over 50 years being faithful to one another in all challenges of marriage. As an elderly man, He pointed out some piece of advice that they have practiced to make their marriage work for long time.
Quarrels will occur but your relationship should not be affected by these. You can love a person madly and you can get mad about him / her too. Quarrels do not necessarily mean ending the marriage. Staying together means you’ve chosen peace and friendship over conflict. With this proverb, Pete emphasizes his point, ‘a poor peace is better than a good quarrel.’ And he says this is why they rarely fight.
A relationship comes with commitments. This means you do need to do things you might not like. But these things you have to do, because your presence makes him or her happy. Gifts are important. Never forget the little gifts, they are long remembered. As they say, fun trifles, particularly the signs of attention, play a big role in the life.
Getting the same mates isn’t inevitable. You don’t have to insist on parties with other married couples who aren’t friends with one of you.
Often kiss each other. If one of you has to get to work early, you can tenderly kiss other significantly and try not to wake him /her up.
You may need to refuse invitations to stay with your spouse, sometimes. Life can make you either very busy, and you don’t have to fill in the week’s calendar with unnecessary meetings and invitations.
Treat your in-law just as you treats your own family. Your in-laws will be delighted to see them as your family.
Often you do say ‘I love you.’ These three words can’t be easily forgotten. They are always pleasant to hear. Speak them out more often, don’t skimp words.
Show sympathy when the person you love is sick. Maybe because of that, you’ll have to cancel restaurant dinner plans and cook the broth at home instead.
Never joke or ridicule one another especially in front of everyone else. In fact, you should never mock your partner, whether in public or in private. Show mutual respect and pay special attention to what you say about your partner in public.
